bitter/sweet

It’s been said that humans have evolved, been bred, to be predisposed to favor sweets over bitter so we can distinguish the pure from the poison.  Babies will always take a banana over a rutabaga, say.

Today at lunch, I ordered my usual chashu  ramen bowl at my favorite Hapa Ramen at the farmer’s market at the ferry building.  They use local, organic, seasonal ingredients which really come through every bowl and since Fall is here, my bowl had a generous serving of Brussels sprouts and yellow zucchini, along with the braised pork shoulder.  As I raised my vegetable filled chopsticks I thought, “I would take this perfectly charred Brussels sprout over a sweetly dark Belgium chocolate any day.”

Does this mean I’m more apt to be poisoned?
